The fixing of the wire rope on the drum must be very reliable to facilitate inspection and assembly and disassembly, and avoid excessive bending of the wire rope at the fixing place. There are currently three commonly used fixing methods:

1. Fix with pressure plate

Use a pressure plate and bolts to fix the rope tail at one end of the drum set. This method (as shown in Figure a) is simple in structure, convenient to assemble and disassemble, easy to observe and check, and reliable. It is more commonly used at present. When used for multi-layer winding, the form shown in Figure b is generally used. One end of the wire rope is fixed to the flange on the side of the drum set with a pressure plate and bolts, which reduces the occupied space and facilitates winding.

2. Fix with long slats

There are perforations for fixing the rope tail of the steel wire rope on the barrel of the casting reel group, and a convex slat is installed in the hole, and there is a longitudinal rope groove under the slat, and the slat is compressed with screws. This method can shorten the reel, but the structure of the reel is complicated.

3. Fix with a wedge

The steel wire rope is wound on the wedge and loaded into the wedge hole of the reel together with the wedge, and is wedged tightly under the action of the wire rope pulling force. The slope of the wedge is generally 1:4~1:5 to meet the self-locking condition. This method has a complicated reel structure and is not convenient for wire rope replacement, but it can be used for multi-layer winding.

It should be noted that when the wire rope is wound in and out of the drum, it usually has a deflection, and its deflection angle should not be too large, otherwise the wire rope will rub against the side or adjacent wire rope of the rope groove and cause the wire rope to be scratched or scratched. The rope groove is damaged, and the phenomenon of job skipping occurs; the smooth reel will cause the wire rope to not be evenly arranged and cause random winding.
